Walking Down the Aisle

With so much planning and prepping to be done for you wedding day, we can help you with some traditional wedding etiquette tips to help you stress less and start with a good foundation. First, we will start with walking down the aisle. Traditionally the officiant, groom and best man enter from the side of the altar and wait for the remaining party members. First down the aisle will be the grandparents of the groom, followed by the grandparents of the bride. Next is the mother of the bride and, in some cases, the father and mother of the groom. For spacing, generally, one does not start down the aisle until those in front are half way down the aisle. Following the mother of the bride is the bridesmaids and groomsmen. They may be paired together or the girls may go first with the men following. The maid of honor walks the aisle alone following the rest of the line. Next in line would be the ring bearer and the flower girl who can walk together or one by one. Finally, the bride and her father( or that person designated to escort the bride) will walk down the aisle. The bride should be on the left-hand side of her escort. Remember, the officiant should ask the wedding guests to rise as the bride makes her way down the aisle.

The exit order is a little different than the procession, it goes as follows:

1. Bride and Groom

2. Maid of honor and Best Man

3. Bridesmaids and groomsmen, Paired

4. Flower Girl and Ring Bearer

5. Parents of the Bride

6. Parents of the Groom

7. Grandparents of the Bride

8. Grandparents of the Groom

9.Officiant

10. Guests
